Changing Chase

It was a frustratingly familiar cycle.

Every year, Chase Smith would make a New Year’s Resolution, and then lose his resolve.

“I’ve always had the New Year’s Resolutions to lose weight,” Smith said. “I would do the latest, greatest fad diet, whatever was the big fad. I would start losing about 30 pounds and then I’d hit a plateau, and then I’d give up.  I was doing things that weren’t sustainable. I would cut all the carbs out or eat only a thousand calories per day. When I would plateau, it would just give me an excuse to say, ‘Ah, this is not working out.’”

But 2019 has been different.

Much, much different.

After being challenged by a friend, Smith again started 2019 by committing himself to weight loss goals.

“One of my co-workers, Brandy, she actually goes to the Y here, she got me on a challenge saying who could lose more,” Smith said. “She got me coming to the gym here. It started off as more of a competition, but it turned into a lifestyle change more than a weight loss competition.”

Ten months in, his results have been amazing.

Smith has lost 130 pounds.

He’s down four shirt sizes.

He down six inches in pants sizes.

And he feels much healthier.

Smith wants to use his story to encourage others. He has chronicled his journey on his Instagram account at @changing_chase.

“I’ve logged my entire weight loss journey on my social media accounts,” Smith said. “It’s been so supportive that I’m able to help them, and in turn when they let me know they are having results, it keeps me motivated and keeps me wanting to share my story.  I’ve learned that putting myself out there – making myself vulnerable – also kept me accountable in my journey as well.”
