Summer Camp Update

Good Evening Families!

Thank you for the trust that you put in the Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA Youth Programs each summer when you register your child for summer camp. Part of that trust is knowing we have plans and procedures in place to keep your children safe. We take this responsibility seriously by providing each child a safe physical, emotional, and social environment.

As of March 30, 2020, Governor Northam issued a stay at home order for the State of Virginia until June 10, 2020. We will be moving forward with all of our programming decisions with the safety of our children and families being our first priority.

While our summer programs are still several months away, we understand if you have questions about whether you should register, and what will happen if current efforts to restrict the virus are extended. Our hope is that through clear communication we can help alleviate some anxiety. We have not made a final decision on Summer Camp as of yet. We are planning to announce a finalized decision around May 4, 2020. There are many factors that will influence our ability to provide our normal Summer Day Camp program.

In the interim, we are still working to create an environment that will continue to support the fellowship of our campers and staff. We will be providing necessary training to staff and utilizing virtual content to the best of our abilities. We still want your child to learn and participate with each other and staff regardless of the outcome of our current situation. We are offering daily virtual youth development activities for our community on Facebook, Instagram, and Zoom. Please visit our Facebook page to see our calendar of weekly activities like P.E., Art, nightly story time, and teen chats with Mr. Eddie.

The Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA takes our mission to heart. No change in our current or future situation will change this. Camp will always be here regardless of the format/ location/ duration. We take this as a challenge to use new and different platforms to continue to bring you quality summer programming.

Through supporting each other and the community we will be able to find happiness, hope, connection, meaning and value during these challenging and uncertain times.

As plans and policies change, we will keep you informed. We are looking forward to seeing you, and hope the answers below are both informative and comforting.

Of course, I welcome your questions and are always available by email or phone 540-885-8089 to discuss any concerns or requests you may have. Since I will not have access to my office for the time being I will return your phone calls as soon as possible. I am looking forward to welcoming your child to SAYMCA Summer Camp!

What about summer programs?

We fully anticipate carrying on summer programming as scheduled. If factors make that impossible, we will adjust accordingly and make you aware of any changes and/or cancellations. Registration is open on our website at under the Summer Day Camp page.

What if I register and my event is cancelled?

If Staunton-Augusta YMCA Summer Day Camp needs to cancel any program, you will receive a full refund.

What if I register and because of conditions in my area, I am unable to attend, even if the event is not cancelled?

If the federal government, the Centers for Disease Control, state or local authorities, or the written advice of a physician keeps you from coming to a SAYMCA Summer Camp event due to COVID-19, know that a full refund will still apply.

(Please note, these exceptions to our normal cancellation and refund policies only apply to circumstances around COVID-19. For other situations, standard cancellation policies still apply.)

How do I find out about the latest updates for summer 2020 Youth Programs?

Any changes will be posted on our Website ( as well as our Facebook Page.

We will continue to monitor the situation around the COVID-19 Pandemic and what it means for the Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA Summer Camp. We will continue to pass along information as we learn it. Please reach out with questions or needs anytime.

Have a wonderful evening!
