TEENS VOLUNTEER HERE!

The Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA is currently working to expand its Youth Volunteer Corps program.

The Y is currently in search for student volunteers ages 11 through 18, as well as local Nonprofit organizations that would benefit from teen volunteer work.

The YVC was founded in 1987. Since that time, students in the United States and Canada have completed over five million community service hours through Youth Volunteer Corps.  (To read more about YVC, click here).

Each project with Youth Volunteer Corps contains:

  • a group icebreaker activity
  • a direct or indirect service opportunity
  • a service lesson
  • a time of reflection

Each student’s service hours are recorded in the national YVC database. It’s an excellent way for students to serve their communities. As the program grows, the Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA will be looking to create a youth council to provide leadership.

Chris Lassiter is the YMCA point person for the YVC. (Watch him talk about YVC here.) For more information at Youth Volunteer Corps, contact him at chris@saymca.org.
