YMCA’s Briggs a 2018 “Newsmaker”

Judy Briggs, the Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA’s beloved Rock Steady Boxing visionary and coach, was profiled by the The News Leader as part of the “Newsmakers” series.

After Briggs was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, she worked persistently to get a Rock Steady Boxing program at the YMCA. Rock Steady Boxing uses boxing to help people with Parkinson’s disease fight back.  According to the News Leader website, the end-of-the-year “Newsmakers” series “profiles members of the community who may not be heavily in the public eye, but are of the key pool of citizens moving forward the projects and topics our area cares about.”

The Briggs story will be in the physical copy of The News Leader at some time in the near future. The article and the three-minute video can be found online here.
