Below you will find information regarding our youth sports programs, pre-k and elementary programs, middle and high school programs, birthday parties, playroom, and parent’s night out. 

Youth Sports Programs

Little Kickers Soccer

Ages 3-6

Registration begins August 11

This program emphasizes fun. Smaller goals, fields and teaching stations are used. Parents are encouraged to participate. (Six-week program.)

Fees: $45 Member $60 Non-Member

Dates: September 8 – October 13

Times: Ages 3-4 Saturday mornings 9:00 – 9:45 am
Ages 5-6 Saturday mornings 10:00 – 10:45 am

Location: McSwain Elementary School Field

 

Girls Middle School Fall Volleyball Program

A developmental program designed to help middle school volleyball athletes learn and improve on the fundamentals of the sport. The program includes a weekly 75-minute practice (time and day determined by coach) and a game on Saturdays. The practices are dedicated to helping volleyball players improve their individual skill sets. The games are intended to help players practice sportsmanship and learn in-game strategy. Volleyball coordinator Priscilla Jenkins is also seeking experienced volleyball players to help teach the younger players. Sign-ups begin on August 20 and extend through September 7.

Fees: $55 Member $70 Non-Member

Youth Basketball League

Be a part of one of the fastest growing sports programs serving Staunton and Augusta County. This league emphasizes SKILL DEVELOPMENT and FUN!! (6 -7 year-old league is co-ed).

Registration period: September 12 – October 22

Fees: $75 Member $90 Non-Member

Dates: Clinics held on November 6 and 7. Coaches meeting on November 12.
Practice begins week of November 26. MUST PRE-REGISTER.
Games are Saturdays January 5 – February 23 (March 2 make-up date)

Homeschool PE

Ages 5-12
Registration starts September 13

Both age groups will include a fun fitness section, a skill-building portion and finish with a sports period. PLEASE WEAR ATHLETIC SHOES. No classes Thanksgiving week.

Fees: $45 Member $60 Non-Member

Ages 5 – 8
Dates: September 6 – October 11 & October 25 – December 6
Time: Thursday -10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Ages 9 -12
Dates: September 5- October 10 & October 24 – December 5
Time: Wednesday – 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

*$10 discount will be given if child is registered by the Friday before each session begins.

Youth Health and Fitness

All youth ages 12-14 must complete at least four one-hour appointments with a fitness instructor in order to use the Wellness Center. Sessions emphasize safety and alignment. See Front Desk to schedule your appointments.

Middle and High School Enrichment Programs

Teen Center (Ages 12-17)

Community Youth can experience a safe and fun environment under the care of new Teen Center Supervisor Eddie Santiago and his youth development staff. The renovated Teen Center is equipped with a game room, a lounge area, a cafe and a homework area. Optional programs offered for the teens as well. Optional programming is offered for the teens as well.

Times: Monday through Friday 2:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Weekends 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Youth Volunteer Corps (Ages 11-18)

Are you tired of your children being a permanent arm’s length away from their phones or hibernating indoors glued to their TV? Do you want them to learn how to make a difference in their community while boosting their resume for college?

Youth Volunteer Corps is a network of affiliates hosted by non-profit organizations, schools, or individuals that offer youth ages 11-18 the opportunity to serve their community. Registration forms are available at the Y front desk, and at Shelburne Middle School and Robert E. Lee High School guidance offices.

Saturday Night Madness (Grades 6-8)

Special event for middle school students only. Second Saturday each month. Kids can socialize, make new friends and participate in a number of fun activities such as swimming, dodgeball, basketball and the Teen Center. Price includes pizza and drinks.

Fees: $1 for Members and $3 for Non-Member (CASH ONLY)

Pre-K and Elementary Programs

*New* Preschool Enrichment Classes

Join us for two hands-on preschool classes this fall!

Preschool Mini-Makers Class: 3-5 years old

Bring your mini-maker to spark their imagination in an open, creative environment that encourages children to follow their natural curiosity and discover what they can make. Fun and engaging maker activities led by a certified teacher. This will be a mixed-age class. Class takes place in our preschool/afterschool space, next to the SAYMCA.

Preschool Spice It Up Cooking Class: 3-5 years old

This interactive no-bake cooking class will give children the opportunity to discover the joy of cooking. We will learn to follow a recipe, measure ingredients, and create healthy dishes. There will be a focus on identifying and using numbers 1-10. This will be a mixed age class, led by a certified teacher.

Totally Irresponsible Homeschool Science Class

If making milk turn into stone or shooting a lightning bolt from your fingertips sounds like fun, this class is for you! We’ll be using The Book of Totally Irresponsible Science by Sean Connolly to learn basic chemistry principles through daring experiments. Held in our Afterschool Adventure Room and taught by a certified teacher.

Times: Tuesdays 12:30 pm – 2 :30 pm

Dates: September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16

Afterschool Adventure Club (K-5th Grade)

Learn. Grow. Thrive! With a focus on safety, health, social growth, and academic enrichment, our state licensed afterschool program serves children with options to explore and develop their interests and talents. We offer a healthy snack, homework assistance, STEM and art activities and swimming.You can feel confident knowing that your child is safe and well cared for by highly qualified, CPR and First Aid-certified staff. Staunton City Schools provide bus transportation to our afterschool room.

Space is limited. Registration is ongoing as space allows.

Playroom/ Birthday Parties/Parent’s Night Out

Child Watch/Playroom (Ages 3 months-11)

You don’t have to worry about your children wanting to come to the YMCA while you work out.  In fact you may get tired of them asking you to take them to the YMCA’s Child Watch area, open to children ages 3 months through 11 years.  You can leave them in good hands and let them experience fun the Y’s way.  Our playroom offers a wide variety of activities including a 20-foot high Play Place.  The staff is training in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.  See the monthly schedule for open times.

Parent’s Night Out (Ages 5-11)

Parent’s Night Out is a safe and fun environment for kids ages 5-11 to play, while parents enjoy a quiet evening to themselves or an evening out on the town. Pizza and drinks are provided as well as lots of fun! This program is supervised by trained staff. Child/ren must be signed in by 6:00pm. Pre-register at the Front Desk by the Monday before the scheduled date. Activities may include swimming, x-box, games and crafts. Life jackets and bubbles provided for non-swimmers. MINIMUM of 6 needed to hold event.

Birthday Party at the Y!

Available times on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. Please reserve early (at least one week notice required). Includes T-shirt for birthday child, 1-hour celebration in private room with pizza, cake, drinks, set-up and clean-up. The YMCA Character Development Theme with red, yellow, blue and green is used for cake and decorations (limited to 25 children and adults).

Pool Party Package includes 1 hour of swimming.

Play Place Package includes 45 minutes in the Play Place.

Fees: $50 non-refundable deposit required to book party $150 Members $200 Non-Member
