Youth Volunteer Corps (Ages 11-18)

Are you tired of your children being a permanent arm’s length away from their phones or hibernating indoors glued to their TV? Do you want them to learn how to make a difference in their community while boosting their resume for college?

Youth Volunteer Corps is a network of affiliates hosted by non-profit organizations, schools, or individuals that offer youth ages 11-18 the opportunity to serve their community. Registration forms are available at the Y front desk, and at Shelburne Middle School and Robert E. Lee High School Guidance Offices.

Saturday Night Madness (Grades 6-8)

Come enjoy basketball, swimming, loud music, karaoke, Girls’ Club in the Teen Center, Staff vs. Teens dodgeball games and more. Second Saturday each month. 7:15 pm – 9:45 pm. Pizza and drinks included. $1 Members. $3 Non-Members. (CASH ONLY)

Teen Center (Ages 12-17)

Community Youth can experience a safe and fun environment under the care of new Teen Center Supervisor Eddie Santiago and his youth development staff. The newly renovated Teen Center is equipped with a game room, a lounge area, a cafe and a homework area. Optional programs offered for the teens as well.

M – F 2:30 – 8:00 pm, Weekends 2:00 – 7:00 pm.

Summer hours beginning June 4: M-Fr 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Weekends 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Afterschool Adventure Club (K-5th Grade)

Registration for Fall 2018 begins: July 12, 2018 McSwain, Bessie Weller and A.R. Ware Elementary Schools Staunton City Schools provide bus transportation. We offer a warm, caring environment where children have the opportunity to play with school friends and make new ones. This state-licensed program is directed by an experienced leadership team offering homework assistance, healthy snacks, sports (in- and outdoors), arts and crafts, games and swimming. Space is limited. Registration is ongoing as space allows.

Registration Fee: $10 Weekly Fees: $50 Member $55 Non-Member


Co-Ed Volleyball League

The league instructs third through fifth-grade athletes on how to bump, set and spike. Coordinator determines the 75-minute practice time. Games are on Thursdays at the YMCA. Shirts provided. Minimum 30 participants. Check the Y website for more information on Summer Sand Volleyball League and Girls Volleyball Prep for Tryouts League as well.

Fees: $35 for Members. $45 for Non-Members

Dates: June 4 – 29, Thursdays


Basketball Camp

Come learn basketball from district coach of the year Terrell Mickens, undefeated junior varsity coach Teley Tate and members of Robert E. Lee boys’ basketball team. Camp is for boys and girls age 10-15. Located at the YMCA.

Little Kickers Soccer

Ages 3-6

Registration begins Aug. 11

This program emphasizes fun. Smaller goals, fields and teaching stations are used. Parents are encouraged to participate. Youth Health and Fitness

Ages 12+

All youth ages 12-14 must complete at least four one-hour appointments with a fitness instructor in order to use the Wellness Center. Sessions emphasize safety and alignment. See Front Desk to schedule your appointments.

Homeschool PE

Ages 5-12

Pre-registration is a MUST

Both age groups will include a fun fitness section, a skill building portion and finish with a sports period. (6-week sessions)

  • Ages 5 – 8 September 6 – October 11, October 25 – December 6, Thursdays, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
  • Ages 9 -12 September 5 – October 10, October 24 – December 5, Wednesdays, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

*$10 discount will be given if child is registered by the Friday before each session begins.

Summer Day Camp

June 4 – July 27

Camp sites: McSwain Elementary School, A.R. Ware Elementary School , Weyers Cave Community Center, and Shelburne Middle School.

Y Camp is a safe and exciting alternative for your child this summer. Arts and crafts, sports, swimming, field trips, games, songs, and much more!

One-week sessions available; scheduled activities are held between 8:30am-4:30pm; sites will be open from 7:00 am-6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Ages 5-10

Child must be 5 by July 1, 2018 Ages 11-14 Teen Camp. Child must be a rising 6th grader.


  • $10 one-time registration fee
  • $10 per week non-refundable, non-transferable deposit per child
  • $110 per week Member
  • $125 per week Non-Member

Pre-K Summer Camp

June 4 – July 27

*NEW* 3-5- year-old PK camp! offers developmentally appropriate activities, swimming, games, crafts, and more!

Held in our Afterschool Adventure Club space next to the YMCA. Great for preschoolers that haven’t been in a structured setting previously. Low staff to camper ratio 1:8.

Scheduled activities 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Site open from 7:00 am-6:00 pm. Morning half day option available, 8:30 am-12:30 pm.

Children that have not attended kindergarten, and are age 5, must register for the 4/5 year old PK camp.


  • $10 one-time registration fee

  • Full day: $110 per week Member
  • Full day: $125 per week Non-Member
  • Half day for PK Camp: $70 per week Member
  • Half day for PK Camp: $80 per week Non-Member

Child Watch/Playroom (Ages 3 months-11)

You don’t have to worry about your children wanting to come to the YMCA while you work out.  In fact you may get tired of them asking you to take them to the YMCA’s Child Watch area, open to children ages 3 months through 11 years.  You can leave them in good hands and let them experience fun the Y’s way.  Our playroom offers a wide variety of activities including a 20-foot high Play Place.  The staff is training in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.  See the monthly schedule for open times.

Parents Night Out (Ages 5-11)

Parent’s Night Out is a safe and fun environment for kids ages 5-11 to play, while parents enjoy a quiet evening to themselves or an evening out on the town. Pizza and drinks are provided as well as lots of fun! This program is supervised by trained staff. Child/ren must be signed in by 6:00pm. Pre-register at the Front Desk by the Monday before the scheduled date. Activities may include swimming, x-box, games and crafts. Life jackets and bubbles provided for non-swimmers. MINIMUM of 6 needed to hold event.

Birthday Party at the Y!

We have times available on Friday evenings, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Please reserve early (at least one week notice required). Includes shirt for birthday child, 1-hour celebration in private room with pizza, cake, drinks, set-up and clean-up. The YMCA Character Development Theme with red, yellow, blue, and green is used for cake and decorations (limited to 25 children and adults). Pool Party Package includes 1 hour of swimming. Play Place Package includes 45 minutes in the Play Place.
