Reach & Rise Mentoring

What? Our therapeutic group mentoring program matches 6 youth with 2 adult mentors. Groups focus on building communication skills, addressing bullying and managing stress in positive ways. Mentors go through a 15 hour training, must be 21 years old, and pass a criminal background check.

When? Fall and Spring groups meet for 16 weeks, once a week for 2 hours.  Summer groups meet for 8 weeks, once a week for 2 hours.

Our next groups will start in January.

WHY SHOULD I BE A GROUP MENTOR?

  • Help increase youth’s sense of belonging
  • Normalize youth’s developmental milestones and experiences

DOES IT REALLY WORK?

  • Youth are FIVE times more likely to graduate if they have meaningful relationships with adults
  • Kids who have mentors are nearly 50% less likely to use drugs
  • Youth with mentors demonstrate improved self-esteem, decision makings skills, and relationships

REQUIREMENTS

  • Desire to work with youth ages 8-15 years in a group setting
  • 21+ years old
  • Weekly Check-Ins with Program Director
  • Willingness to collaborate with Co-Mentor to facilitate group

COMMITMENT

  • Mentor training (15+ hours)
  • Summer Group (2 hours a week for 8 weeks)
  • Fall and Spring Groups (2 hours a week for 16 weeks)

  • Groups meet weekly for 2 hours each
  • Group mentoring session are held 3 times per year:
    8 week (summer session) and 16 week (Fall & Spring Session)
