YVC Parent Meeting Monday Night

The Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA’s Youth Volunteer Corps is expanding to add a parent committee, and there will be a 45-minute training beginning at 8:00 pm this Monday night at the YMCA.
YVC is a network of affiliated organizations across the U.S. and Canada engaging youth ages 11-18 in team-based, structured, diverse, flexible service-learning opportunities.
Monday night’s training includes:
1. Creating icebreakers that break down barriers
2. Connecting students to the work
3. Teaching life skills through volunteerism
4. Reflecting with students
5. Keeping students safe
The YVC Parent Committee is striving to put parents in a place to have a  maximum impact with a minimal time commitment.
Aside from the initial trainings, there will be a lunch meeting once every three months. Once training in completed, parents are encouraged to volunteer on project days as time allows. That’s it.
Having a parent committee allows us to grow the YVC and create sustainability. For more information on Monday night’s training or the parent committee, email YVC coordinator Chris Lassiter at chris@saymca.org.
