In June 2020, the Staunton-Augusta YMCA was called to assist the community by providing Emergency Child Care for essential workers during our pandemic. SAYMCA successfully ran a safe and fun 10-week summer program supporting the needs of our community.

In August 2020, SAYMCA was again called upon to help families who needed a safe and supportive place for their child as COVID-19 effected the transition back to school. Since August SAYMCA has been running a full day educational support and enrichment program for approximately 70 students from surrounding City and County school districts at 3 different locations.

This June 2021, the Staunton-Augusta YMCA received a request from Staunton City Schools to help provide a safe and engaging afternoon of enrichment to support the SCS Student University at all 3 elementary schools for summer 2021. As the SAMYCA’s mission remains flexible to meet the needs of the community it is our pleasure to partner with SCS’s to provide an additional 300 children the support and consistency of safe and fun programming this June.

While this year has been challenging and uncertain the lingering effects of COVID-19 continue to have an impact on our family and friends. The Staunton-Augusta YMCA will continue to strive to meet the needs of the community with the hope that we can nurture and impact the lives of our children. The Staunton-Augusta YMCA has operated our summer camp for over 20 years and has had the support of our community partners to use their facilities and locations. It is our hope that we will be able to find our own location to host our summer camps and youth development programs in the future. This will offer the stability and flexibility to schedule and plan within our own organization. We will continue to provide the safe, fun, inclusive, and exceptional programming that our participants have come to enjoy.
