YMCA Summer Youth Programming Q & A

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we have received about summer programming for youth at the STAUNTON-AUGUSTA FAMILY YMCA, along with our answers.

Q: What are you offering this summer?

A: We’re offering the Teen Spot Summer Programming with “Mr. Eddie” here at the YMCA from June 7th – July 30th. It’s for rising sixth graders through rising ninth graders. You can select individual weeks or all weeks. Registration is live and open now. There is a link on our website and our saymca.org Summer 2021 page, and there are more details there already posted.

We are offering three weeks July 5th – July 23rd at Thomas C. McSwain Elementary for kids ages 5-11. Registration will be open May 11th. You can register for individual weeks or all three. Details will be posted on our saymca.org website Summer 21 page.

We are offering four weeks from July 5th to July 30th at Staunton Alliance Church for kids ages 5-11. You can enroll for individual weeks or all four weeks, or a combination of there and McSwain. Registration opens May 11th.

We’ve been asked to assist Staunton City Schools with their summer school program from June 7th to July 2nd. We will not be able offer elementary-age programming at that time.

Q: Why are you not offering elementary-age programming in June?

A: In an effort to help students with all of the different COVID-related things, Staunton City Schools have extended invitations to approximately 320 students to participate in their summer school program. Since they will be using all three elementary schools, there’s no space left for us to host our own summer programs.

Q: What is the cost of the programs?

A: Tuition is $125 per week for members and $150 per week for non-members.  There’s a 10 percent discount for each sibling. That includes all the programming and breakfast, lunch and snack at all the locations. There’s a $10 registration fee per child.

Q: Is there financial aid available for your summer programs?

A: Financial aid is available for all of our programming this summer. There is a packet at the YMCA front desk. It can be picked up any time.  Once that packet is filled out and returned, we can process each family’s individual rate.

Q: Where do I find the information for YMCA summer activities?

A: All of the YMCA summer activities and programs available for registration will be posted on our website on our Summer 21 page under the youth tab.

Q: Are you still hiring for summer staff?

A: We are hiring for summer staff. We have a bonus program right now. We’re offering $100 bonus to staff who work all four weeks of June. We are taking high school applicants. Starting pay is $9.50 if you’re under 18. If you’re over 18, starting pay is $11. You can apply online here.

Q: How do I register?

A: There will be a registration link posted on our saymca.org Summer 2021 page. Once you fill out all of your information, it will take you to the available options. There’s a $10 registration fee to hold your spot. All children will need to submit immunizations, a physical signed by a doctor, and a birth certificate.
